Party hat makeover.

Plain old original party hats are great. Classic. But when it comes to the birthday party for my both my girls, I want more. I need more. Plus I am always up for a craft! I sat in my garage while one girlie slept and the other was away learning, just staring at the party hats.

 Hmmmm..... It looked like a little glitter, confetti, and feathers could fix the problem. They (glitter, confetti, and feathers) always do, don't they? I am a firm believer of that :)

All I did was Spray one side (the right to be specific) lightly with craft adhesive spray. It is the next best thing to gold spray paint if you ask me. Then I sprinkled the entire tacky area with paper confetti and glitter confetti so that one side had a little flair. Next I sprayed the spot I wanted to stick the feathers, put them on, and continued to make 20 more. Not to bad.

These party hats make me smile. And most importantly both of my girls lit up when they saw them. Exactly what I was hoping for :)

A decor holiday how to ~ Anthropologie style

A few weeks ago I was strolling around Anthropologie with my big girl, looking for gift ideas. She spotted these cute little globes made out of mason jars. First of all I love mason jars. We pretty much use them for everything from painting to wine drinking. I knew that I could re-create them at home for much cheaper. The idea is so simple! All you need to do is round up some supplies:

Mason jars - we used various sizes for height
Hot glue gun
Snow - I like the glittery snow, usually a few bucks a bag at Michael's.
Holiday objects - trees, animals, Santa, pine cones (we glued pine cones together), garland trim....
Brown painters paper - this is my all time favorite thing to have around the house. For $10 at Home Depot and a roll lasts forever. Easy clean up for projects, gift wrap, rustic table runner....just like the mason jars, endless possibilities..

How to:

Heat up your glue, glue the figures to the inside of the lid, and fill with snow. That's it!

  

We found the trees from the mission building section at our craft store for only a dollar each and used garland trim to decorate them.

I think that they turned out great, and the kids love gazing into them. We did manage to get glitter everywhere in the process, but that was part of the fun right?

DIY : "A" frame.

This little blog world is amazing. Before I started on my journey here, every time someone mentioned a blog I thought: blahhh blahhh blahhh blahhoooog. I had no idea that so much inspiration were just a few clicks away.  That is exactly how I found this sweet little tutorial from Cakies. C The A frame tent. You can view it by clicking here.

We are always building forts in our house, and I knew that this would bring a sweet little pretend/reading/resting spot for my girlies. I love it, and they do to. Big thanks to the hubs and his skills with the power tools { insert other praise and sucking up here in order to get the next project done }.....

Pottery Barn chalk tags

 On Friday afternoon I was flipping thru Pottery Barn's latest and became obsessed with making these tags, which led me to a long and rather expensive trip to Michael's (I lack self control). I cant believe I hadn't thought of this myself being that I loveTheses are great to gift with a bottle of wine, use as a tag for a present, and to label your decanter for a wine and cheese party.

Here is what you will need:

Wood from Michael's .99 cents each

Chalkboard spray paint

Drill

Sand paper

Twine

Chalk

All you need to do is drill a hole where you would like it, spray both sides, let dry (i let them dry overnight), sand down the edges to make them look not so new, and tie on twine.

I now have an excuse to have a wine and cheese party :)

Sew crafty.

I am hoping to have a crafty holiday season this year. Time permitting. And it got me thinking....hey, I really want a sewing machine! How great would it be to just turn out your own couch pillows and throws?

And this book please.....

Here are some crafts I am thinking about.

I want to make a pouf (I love anything called a poof, except on the jersey shore please.) for my family room and the girlie's room....

Butter is better and one handy hub.

So I thought I would give you all a few updates. The planter is pretty much done, thanks to R who is a modern day Bob Vila. Thanks honey! And I threw together some butter making photos to show you just how easy it REALLY is :).

Looks great thanks to my handy man! I'm so excited to have all these fresh herbs on hand :)



Now the butter: All you need: mixer (hand is fine too if you want to work your muscles), heavy cream, cheese cloth, bowl, and a pinch of salt.

add the heavy cream and salt.Whip til it looks like scrambles eggs, pat the fluffy whipped cream stage.

Strain in the cheese cloth.

I like to put it in a butter dish to mold it into a traditional butter rectangle.

And you are left with beautiful buttermilk. Buttermilk pancakes anyone?

The possibilities for this east butter recipe are endless. You can mix in herbs for herb butter, roasted garlic for garlic butter, honey for honey butter, whatever you fancy. You could also use the mix-ins with store bought butter if you want. What shall I do with my butter now?
